Tiësto (Dutch pronunciation: [tiɛsto]; born Tijs Michiel Verwest [tɛɪs mixiɫ vərʋɛst] on January 17, 1969) is a Dutch DJ and record producer of electronic dance music. Although he has used many aliases in the past, he is best known for his work as DJ Tiësto. On his latest productions, however, he has dropped the “DJ” label and is now known simply as “Tiësto”, an alias which is an Italian twist of his childhood nickname.

In 1997 he founded the label Black Hole Recordings with Arny Bink, where he released the famous Magik and In Search of Sunrise CD series. In 1999 and 2000 he collaborated with Ferry Corsten to create Gouryella. In 2001 he released his first solo album In My Memory which gave him several major hits that launched his career as well as his remix of Delerium’s “Silence” featuring Sarah McLachlan which exposed him to more mainstream audiences. As his popularity rose in the early 2000s he became the first DJ to perform to a large crowd without any other DJs or opening acts. He was crowned the “World’s No.1 DJ” 3 consecutive times by DJ Magazine from 2002 through 2004.

Life and musical career

1969–2000: Early life and musical beginning

Tijs Michiel Verwest was born in Breda, North Brabant, Netherlands on January 17, 1969. He had an interest for music since the age of twelve. When he was fourteen he decided to dedicate more time to it and began DJing professionally at school parties and then moved on to become a resident DJ between 1985 and 1994 at several clubs in the Netherlands after his manager and friend Wilfred encouraged him. However, it was at The Spock, a small club in Breda, where he was able to fine-tune his own style by playing in a separate room from 10 p.m. until 4 a.m. on weekends. In the beginning of his career as a DJ he mostly played New Beat and acid house, and many Madonna songs because her music shows that she likes to dance. Before the release of her album there were already dancemixes like “Vogue” which was one of the songs of Spock.

In 1994 he began releasing material on Noculan Records’ sub-labels Chemo and Coolman. During these years, he produced hardcore/gabber tracks under aliases such as Da Joker and DJ Limited. He was later discovered by the general manager of Rotterdam-based Basic Beat Recordings. In late-1994 he signed to Basic Beat were he met Arny Bink, Tiësto released records on the sub-label Trashcan, founded by Arny, and later created the Guardian Angel sub-label with Arny in which they introduced the popular Forbidden Paradise series. Meanwhile from 1995 to 1996 he released four extended plays on Bonzai Jumps and XTC, sub-labels of Lightning Records. In 1997 Tiësto joined his friend Yves Vandichel on his sub-label, DJ Yves, a division of the now defunct Human Resource label XSV Music. In the fall of 1997, both Arny and Tiësto decided to leave Basic Beat and create their own parent label, now known as Black Hole Recordings, Trashcan was discontinued and Guardian Angel continued releasing music until 2002. Through Black Hole, Tiësto released the Magik series and also created two major sub-labels in 1998; In Trance We Trust and SongBird. From 1998 to 1999 Tiësto released music on Planetary Consciousness were he met A&R Hardy Heller and invited him to release some records on Black Hole. Tiësto later included the In Search of Sunrise series on SongBird. In 1999, Tiësto joined forces with fellow Dutch deejay Ferry Corsten to create the trance based duo of Gouryella. To highlight the importance in the expansion of the trance environment at the time, there were 20 different CD releases of the 4 Gouryella tracks from 9 different labels. He also collaborated with Benno de Goeij from 1998 to 2000 under the name Kamaya Painters. Since November 1999 he performed monthly as a resident at Gatecrasher in Sheffield, one of the most popular clubs in England. In 1999 he also played in a 12-hour set, being his longest lasting concert in Amsterdam.

2000–2002: Rise to fame and In My Memory

Late in 2000, Tiësto decided to concentrate on his personal work and left Corsten by himself to write and produce Gouryella’s next single with John Ewbank, the record company was demanding more tracks and neither Tiësto or Ferry could work together at the time. Tiësto introduced Armin van Buuren, Johan Gielen and Ferry Corsten to the mainstream with his first compilations and the In Trance We Trust series. Summerbreeze became Tiësto’s debut DJ mix album in the United States with the help of a contract signed to Nettwerk. Summerbreeze featured his remix of Delerium’s “Silence”, it spent four weeks in the United Kingdom’s Top Ten chart, it reached number three in the Billboard dance chart. In Search of Sunrise 2 was released in 2000. Tiësto decided to create a sub-label, known as Magik Muzik. The label began releasing Tiësto’s own releases, but it has also released tracks for the Filterheadz, Oliver Lieb, Mark Norman, Mojado, Phynn and Jes Brieden. The label became a trademark which stands for high quality electronic dance music which was due to the release of Tiësto’s classic dance anthem “Flight 643” in 2001.

Tiësto’s fame started to rise in the early 2000s after his set at the first ID&T Innercity party (Live at Innercity: Amsterdam RAI), and the release of In My Memory, his first solo album released in 2001 which contained 10 singles and 5 major hits; The singles from the album were: “Lethal Industry” which was actually produced in 1999 and had only 3 copies released at that time, the track was officially released in 2001 which was remixed by Richard Durand in 2006 along with “Flight 643” which was another leading single that was later adapted with vocals by Suzanne Palmer and released as “643 (Love’s on Fire)”. Other tracks were “Obsession” in which Tiësto worked along Junkie XL also known as Tom Holkenborg, the instrumental tracks “Dallas 4PM” and “Suburban Train” with “Urban Train” as it’s B-Side which contained some vocals. In January 2003 Tiësto received the annual Dutch Popprijs (‘Pop Award’) during the Noorderslag festival. After touring with Moby, Tiësto remixed two songs from him, “We Are All Made of Stars” and “Extreme Ways” in the same year, having “We Are All Made of Stars” reach #13 in the Hot Dance Club Play. In 2002 he released his first In Search of Sunrise mix to feature a place on its name, In Search of Sunrise 3: Panama. On March 28, 2003; Tiësto, Dieselboy, Bad Boy Bill, and Noel Sanger joined the PlayStation2 Dual Play tour. Tiësto and Noel’s appearance began on April 13 and ended on June 6.

2003–2004: Just Be and Olympics

His fame continued to skyrocket in the early 2000s following his six-hour “Tiësto Solo” sets which he performed without other DJs or opening acts. This idea, of one DJ playing alone to a large crowd, was brought to its pinnacle when Tiësto was the first DJ to hold a solo concert in a stadium; on May 10, 2003, he performed for over 25,000 people in Arnhem’s Gelredome. This concert was later called Tiësto in Concert, the event was an enormous success. He repeated the same type of concert the following year during two consecutive nights in late October. In addition to holding these two concerts for 35,000 of his fans, he held another concert for a crowd of 20,000 in Hasselt, Belgium the following week. Tiësto and Kirsty Hawkshaw’s production and single “Just Be” appeared in the Nip / Tuck: Original TV Soundtrack, and “Love Comes Again” was used in a Coca-Cola commercial in Holland. The track “Sweet Misery” was originally written for Evanescence but it did not meet the deadline for the release of their album. Tiësto’s remix of the Kane song “Rain Down on Me” is featured in the game FIFA Football 2004. In support to his Just Be album, he played at Breda, Eindhoven, Utrecht, and Amsterdam; these stops were later named Just Be: Train Tour. On May 20, 2004 he was appointed Officer of the Order of Orange-Nassau by Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands.
The Olympic Flame at the 2004 Summer Olympics opening ceremony

The Athens Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games (ATHOC) asked Tiësto to perform at the Olympic Games, making him the first DJ to play live on stage at an Olympic Games at the 2004 Summer Olympics opening ceremony in Athens for 90 minutes.

Tiësto flew to Athens in January 2004 to have a meeting with the ATHOC. His Tiësto in Concert DVD caught their attention, after which he was asked to write more tracks based on his opening tune “Adagio for Strings” which could fit in with the Olympic spirit and combine the classical with the modern age; They also requested that he play his own produced music. The first rehearsal was on Saturday 7, August for an empty stadium; the second rehearsal was on Sunday 8 with 35,000 volunteers, a lot of the people recognised some tracks like “Traffic” and “Adagio for Strings”. The last rehearsal included almost 60,000 people in the stadium which was on Tuesday 10, there were some technical problems, the mixer broke down, the monitors dropped out a couple of times and the music in the stadium was not continuously on the right volume.

During the parade on Friday 13, all participating nations introduced their athletes which were over 10,500 in total and 80,000 in the public, only 75,000 knew about dance music. During the course of his performance the Dutch athletes started dancing in front of the DJ booth and had to be moved on by officials. The performance included new tracks produced especially for the Opening Ceremony and songs that were created to complement the spirit and theme of the ceremony. A condensed studio-recorded album of the songs played on the Olympic set was later released, including new songs specially composed for the occasion, entitled Parade of the Athletes in October 2004. In the liner notes, he noted the IOC requested that the music not contain any lyrics as they could be inadvertently misinterpreted. After some success, an unmixed version was also released exclusively on iTunes featuring full length tracks.

The David Guetta Playlist

Daily from 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm

The David Guetta Playlist

Genre – House, Tech-House, Techno, Tribal

French electronic music producer David Guetta rose to prominence atop the sparkling wave of DJs who combined Daft Punk’s sleek house music with a pinch of electroclash punch at the start of the 21st century. Achieving international crossover success during the late-2000s EDM boom with chart-toppers One Love and Nothing But the Beat, his house anthems became fixtures on the dance charts into the 2010s, often featuring famous names from the worlds of pop and rap, including frequent collaborators Nicki Minaj, Sam Martin, Sia, Chris Willis, Rihanna, Kelly Rowland, and Afrojack. Along with the latter two artists, Guetta also won a pair of Grammy Awards in 2011.

A native of Paris, the artist born Pierre David Guetta had been DJ’ing around France playing popular tunes, but his brain was particularly rewired in 1987 when he heard a Farley Jackmaster Funk track on French radio. He taped the track, brought a copy to a gig, and promptly cleared the floor with it during one of his own sets. Things loosened up a year later when acid house came to France and Guetta successfully promoted his own club nights. It was during one of those nights in 1992 that he met Robert Owens, a Chicago-based house legend who was touring Europe at the time. Guetta played Owens some of his own tracks, and Owens picked one he liked enough to sing over. The result was “Up and Away,” a minor hit that lurked in garage DJ crates for the next four years.

Guetta’s carefree attitude — that he only produces good music while he’s having casual fun — kept the DJ from releasing anything until 2001’s “Just a Little More Love.” The track featured American gospel singer Chris Willis, who’d met Guetta while on vacation in France. Another slow burner, “Just a Little More Love,” kept popping up in sets for the next two years, first in an electro version and later in a pumped-up Wally Lopez remix. During this time, Guetta snuck out a bootleg remix of David Bowie’s “Heroes,” retitled “Just for One Day.” Bowie gave the go-ahead to release the track officially, and Guetta soon had a massive hit on his hands. Guetta featured the liberated boot on his first mix CD, Fuck Me I’m Famous, named after Guetta’s successful Ibiza-based party.

The fun-loving slacker DJ finally got around to releasing a collection of his own productions in 2004, Just a Little More Love on Astralwerks. Guetta Blaster arrived that same year, followed by Poplife in 2007. Chris Willis sang lead vocals on the latter album, which spun off multiple dance singles in multiple countries. Fuck Me I’m Famous: International, Vol. 2 was then released in July 2008, giving listeners a taste of the stylish sounds that orchestrated Guetta’s summer club events in Ibiza. A year later he released One Love, a platinum-selling album featuring the singles “When Love Takes Over” with Kelly Rowland, “Sexy Bitch” with Akon, and “Gettin’ Over” with Chris Willis.

In 2010, Guetta received five nominations at the 52nd Grammy Awards, two of them related to the One Love album and the other three for his work on the Black Eyed Peas’ massive worldwide hit “I Gotta Feeling.” That same year, One Love was reissued as One More Love, featuring a bonus disc of remixes and new tracks. A superstar guest list — featuring Akon, Lil Wayne, Flo Rida, Usher, Chris Brown, and others — would figure into his 2011 release, Nothing But the Beat, but this time the DJ’s songwriting was inspired by dramatic rock bands like Coldplay. In 2014, Guetta released three singles on his own Jack Back label, all of which were rounded up on that year’s Lovers on the Sun EP. Later that year Guetta released his sixth studio album, Listen. Perhaps as a reaction to inadvertently finding himself a sort of unofficial godfather to the burgeoning EDM movement, the album saw him branching out of his electro-house comfort zone, experimenting with elements of hip-hop, alternative rock, R&B, and acoustic instrumentation, and featuring guest artists as diverse as Nicki Minaj, Emeli Sandé, Sia, the Script, and Ladysmith Black Mambazo. In 2015, the LP was reissued as Listen Again with new songs and remixes added to the track list, including “Bang My Head” featuring Fetty Wap and Sia.

Over the next few years, Guetta issued a continuous stream of singles. In 2016, notable releases included the official UEFA Euro anthem “This One’s for You” featuring Zara Larsson, which topped the charts in France, Germany, and Switzerland; “Shed a Light” with Robin Schulz and Cheat Codes; and “No Worries” with Disciples. The following year, Guetta issued a handful of additional collaborations with Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne (“Light My Body Up”), Afrojack (“Another Life”), Justin Bieber (the platinum “2U”), Kiiara (“Complicated”), and Charli XCX and French Montana (“Dirty Sexy Money”). He kicked off 2018 with a pair of Sia collaborations (a remix of “Helium” and “Flames”), while also scoring another Top Ten hit for “Mad Love” with Sean Paul and Becky G. His seventh set, the aptly-titled 7, arrived in September. In addition to including a some of his previously released singles — “2U” and “Flames” among them — Guetta also recruited Anne-Marie, Bebe Rexha, J Balvin, Jason Derulo, Martin Garrix, Jess Glynne, Steve Aoki, Lil Uzi Vert, G-Eazy, and many more for the effort. A bonus second disc of material was also bundled with 7, collecting a dozen tracks recorded as his alter ego Jack Back. Early 2019 saw Guetta team up with Spanish DJ Tom Staar for the single “This Ain’t Techno.”

Darklight Sessions With Fedde Le Grand

Genre – House, Tech-House, Techno, Tribal

Enjoying artistic freedom afforded only an elite few, Fedde Le Grand is a masterful pioneer of electronica, considered by countless fans and artists as one of the single most defining figures in house music. Whether as DJ or producer, Fedde’s influence can be felt throughout the electronic landscape; his creative beats, grooves, melodies and rhythms surround us.

Back in 2006, it was the seminal electro track ‘Put Your Hands Up For Detroit’ that not only brought Le Grand to global attention, but breathed fresh life into a stagnant house scene. Dubbed by many as the “Saviour of House”, it soon became evident that the Dutchman was no one-trick pony. Amongst others, tracks like ‘Let Me Think About It’, ‘Control Room’, ‘Sparks’, his remixes of Coldplay’s ‘Paradise’ and EBTG’s ‘Missing’, ‘The Creeps’, ‘So Much Love’, ‘Metrum’, ‘Autosave’, ‘Back & Forth’, ‘RAW’ and lastly his amazing remix for Nikki Williams’ ‘Glowing’ have established him as one of the most exciting and consistent talents around, demonstrating his effortless ability to move seamlessly between huge mainstream success and edgier, underground sounds. His 2009 debut artist album ‘Output’ was released in an incredible 64 countries worldwide, establishing him as one of the foremost creative forces in electronic music, while 2011 saw him accomplish a record-breaking 5 Beatport #1 tracks – including his reworking of ‘Paradise’ which earned him an opening set for Chris Martin’s super-band in Madrid. Increasingly in demand for his remix skills, Fedde’s talents have been called upon by a host of musical superstars, including Madonna, Coldplay and Robbie Williams to Will.i.am, Moby and Fatboy Slim.

Not only indulging in his own perfectionist musical tendencies, Fedde also nurtures new talent through his Flamingo imprint, using his years of hard-earned experience to push them towards superstardom. Nicky Romero, Deniz Koyu and Danny Avila are just some of the fledging talents that Fedde has already helped explode into the mainstream, and 2013 looks set to continue the trend with unknown artists set to breakthrough under Fedde’s guiding hand.

Outside of the studio and around the globe hundreds of thousands have witnessed show-stopping live sets that explode with ingenuity and originality. Huge performances across continents are par for the course for Le Grand, with the likes of Coachella, Exit Festival, Global Gathering, Electric Zoo, Mysteryland, Tomorrowland, Electric Daisy Carnival, Future Music and many more firmly under his belt. His residency at London’s Ministry of Sound has become renowned as a world-class showcase of electro and house, continually selling out to roadblock crowds; his set at Ultra Music Festival 2012 was widely hailed as the best across the mammoth weekend, and to add a final much-lauded feather to his already crammed cap, he holds the coveted position as global headline resident for the jaw-dropping Sensation parties.

In 2012 Fedde announced the expansion of his critically-acclaimed Dark Light Sessions radio show from its birthplace in the US on broadcasting behemoth SiriusXM to stations across the planet, with countries as far spread as Brazil, Australia, Germany, New Zealand, Poland, Romania, Russia and more now receiving his blistering 60 minute mix on a weekly basis, earning the Dutchman an increasing hold on major dance music markets around the world.

Yet through all the success – the international chart-topping heights and global DJ fame – Fedde’s focus is simply fixed on making and playing great tracks. His dedication to music and his unwavering passion for the dancefloor continue to make him an intrinsic and dominant part of the ever-evolving electronic scene. A touchstone, an inspiration and a pioneer; he is definitive, he is essential, he is house music at its finest. He is Fedde Le Grand.

Sebastiaan Hooft Presents Redesign Radio

Genre – House, EDM, Dance, Tech-House, Techno, Progressive

Dutch DJ/producer and label-owner Sebastiaan Hooft has ever dedicated his life to music – following the only way a true musician knows: up. More than twenty years after gracing the decks at school parties in front of his friends, he’s traded the school’s gym for Amsterdam’s super clubs, performances in Tel Aviv, Miami Beach, Ibiza, Prague and Berlin and the launch of his very own Redesign Records label and Redesign radio show. With years of experience in entrepreneurship, he knows exactly how to fuel his one, relentless passion in life: music.

From recording video tapes and cassettes to selling his own mixtapes on the school’s playground. Sebastiaan grew up an ambitious teenager with a taste for the eclectic and a talent for mixing. As the local go-to guy for music, he became his own record label and found a creative way to expand his record collection and fund his first turntables. In the meantime, he took on a job at the local record store, helping customers that would one day be some of the world’s most popular DJ’s. Those were the early steps of an impressive career and the first signs of Sebastiaan’s inner entrepreneur. His clever trades and determined mind would be the foundation to many big things ahead.

Fast forward twenty years and Sebastiaan looks back on a career as one of the most successful business persons in The Netherlands, having set up more than twenty companies. But despite his success, he led a stressful and unhappy life. 2010 brought a turning point, when he ended up in the hospital with serious health issues. That very moment, he knew change was coming. And found that music was still on his side. Besides selling his companies, giving the profit to charity and travelling the globe to share his story with start-ups & managers – building a foundation to his book – he took a deep dive back into music. He set his mind to it, rediscovered the decks and locked himself up in the studio, coached by many industry pro’s – all to recapture the art of music. With persistence, determination and a new-found spark, Sebastiaan climbed back in business – music business.

Eager to build a strong community of like-minded music lovers, he launched his very own Redesign Records in 2015. It became the home to many of the scene’s rising talents and heroes, as well as being an outlet for his own originals. Clocking up more than 250K plays on Spotify in just 2017, ‘Super Me’, ‘Temple’ and ‘Money on the Table’ were given a warm welcome by the next generation of music lovers – carrying a sound that belongs nowhere else but on today’s dance floors. Supported by fellow DJ producers, such as Don Diablo, Martin Garrix and Sam Feldt, Sebastiaan recently kicked off his weekly Redesign Radio show — reaching 40 million listeners per month. With electronic dance music woven into his DNA, it’s a second nature for Sebastiaan to share his vision on what good music sounds like. With a sound that captures the full spectrum of house music, from deep bass matters and melodic ways, his sets and originals are well-balanced and invite the listener to think outside the box.

Where perfection, passion and persistency meet, is exactly where you’ll find this inspiring DJ, producer and entrepreneur. Living his legacy, Sebastiaan Hooft is more eager than ever before to hold on to his first love and share it with the rest of the world.

About Warp Brothers

Following a five year interlude from the studio and turntables, the giant void left by the legendary Warp Brothers has finally been filled and the silence finally shattered.
The duo are exploding back on to the electronic music scene again with a bang proving the wait has definitely been worth it.

Rewind to the year 2000 and the release of their first single ‘Phatt Bass’, The Warp Brothers were catapulted to the forefront of innovative techno/electro music after the track smashed dance charts worldwide and was used as the epic opening soundtrack of the Hollywood blockbuster ‘Blade’. It’s not only become a club anthem but an iconic piece of music that’s still doing the business 15 years later.

Despite the almost overnight success of Phatt Bass, the Warp Brothers were never destined to be a one hit wonder following it up with smashes such as ‘We Will Survive’ which reached top 10 in several countries including the UK and Germany, ‘Blast The Speakers’, ‘Cokane’, ‘Going Insane’, and being an official re-working of Nirvana’s anthem “Smells like teen spirit”.

Shortly after their incredible early success, the pair took the Warp Brothers sound around the world from USA to Australia, Columbia to Japan, Ibiza to South Africa all while playing at the world‘s biggest festivals and clubs.

Besides their own original productions, the Warp Brothers have been called upon for remix duties on countless tracks with over 750 releases worldwide.

After the huge success of “Phatt Bass 2016” (#1 at Beatport) the Warp Brothers are on the road again. They’ve already smashed Australia’s Summer Session Festival in Darwin, Tomorrowland Brasil , closing party for Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike “House of Madness” at Amnesia Ibiza, Ageha – Tokyo, Sky Garden – Bali and many more.

Their schedule sees them busier than ever with a diary filled with both long and short haul tour adventures.

The Warp Brothers latest tracks are regularly found in the sets and radio playlists of the world’s biggest artists and radioshows. These names include the likes of Afrojack, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Ummet Ozcan, David Guetta, Tiesto, Wolfpack, Galantis, Steve Aoki, Hardwell, W&W, Armin van Buuren, Blasterjaxx, Dash Berlin and many, many others.

Their sixth sense for connecting with the crowd through their music is their great weapon. They take the dancefloor to a climax which always makes them repeat their visit to every club they go to play. Their DJ mission is to provide their dance floors with exactly what they want to hear, making them incredibly popular with the commercial music clubbers and big room house lovers alike.

Ferry’s Fix With Ferry Corsten

Friday and Saturday from 9:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Ferry’s Fix with Ferry Corsten

Genre – Trance, Uplifting Trance, Progressive Trance

About Ferry’s Fix

Ferry Corsten’s one-hour monthly radio mixshow is known as Ferry’s Fix and airs on the leading Internet, terrestrial and satellite radio stations worldwide. The format of Ferry’s Fix contrasts entirely from Corsten’s hugely successful and long-running “Corsten’s Countdown” show, and consists of a straight DJ mix of continuous music with just a short personal introduction from Ferry.

Each episode of Ferry’s Fix allows Ferry to let loose where it’s as much about the segues and context of music than simply the tracks on their own. And with an artist as prolific as Ferry Corsten behind the decks, listeners are sure to hear many of Corsten’s own original productions.

Ferry has this to say about the production: “My Ferry’s Fix show is for all those fans who’d been asking me for years to do a straight-up DJ mix, something that brings the club into their cars, ear-buds or living rooms. Ferry’s Fix is totally different and unique from my Corsten’s Countdown show which continues unchanged. Ferry’s Fix gives a stage to all of the killer music I find each month that perhaps doesn’t fit into the format of Corsten’s Countdown. I want to give listeners a full hour of the best upfront tunes, hottest remixes, classics or unexpected goodies in the format of a pure DJ mix with Ferry’s Fix. It’s almost like making a new mix CD for each episode of Ferry’s Fix, so it’s a lot of work, but I hope you enjoy it!”

In October 2004, StoneBridge released a long awaited debut artist album ‘Can’t Get Enough’, which received overwhelming international acclaim, selling huge amounts and spawning the massive hit singles ‘Put ‘Em High’ and ‘Take Me Away’, both hitting the UK Top 10. However, it was with his remix of Robin S ‘Show Me Love’ in 1993, that StoneBridge established himself as a world class remixer and producer.
